Auto Insurance

Liability, collision, comprehensive, and roadside extras for drivers and families.

Auto insurance protects you financially when something goes wrong on the road — whether you cause a wreck, get hit by an uninsured driver, or come back to a dented car in the parking lot. Texas requires every driver to carry at least 30/60/25 in liability coverage, but the state minimum rarely covers the real cost of a serious accident. A well-built auto policy balances liability, physical damage on your own car, and the extras that keep one bad day from becoming a financial setback.

What's typically covered

Bodily injury & property damage liability (BI/PD)

Pays for the other driver's medical bills and vehicle damage when you're at fault. Texas minimum is 30/60/25 ($30K per person / $60K per accident / $25K property). Most drivers should carry at least 100/300/100.

Collision & comprehensive

Collision pays to repair or replace your vehicle after a crash, regardless of fault. Comprehensive covers everything else — hail, theft, vandalism, fire, flood, and animal strikes. Both come with deductibles you choose.

Uninsured / underinsured motorist (UM/UIM)

Roughly 1 in 7 Texas drivers is uninsured. UM/UIM steps in when the at-fault driver has no insurance or not enough to cover your injuries and vehicle damage.

Medical payments & PIP

Pays medical bills for you and your passengers after a covered crash, regardless of fault. PIP also covers a portion of lost wages. Both are optional in Texas but very inexpensive add-ons.

What's typically NOT covered

  • Normal wear, tear, and mechanical breakdown
  • Using your personal vehicle for delivery or rideshare without a rideshare endorsement
  • Damage caused by racing or other illegal activity
  • Intentional damage by the policyholder
  • Custom equipment beyond a small built-in limit, unless scheduled

Common claim scenarios

At-fault collision on I-35

You rear-end a vehicle in stop-and-go traffic. The other driver has $40,000 in medical bills and a totaled $35,000 SUV. With 100/300/100 limits, your liability handles all of it; with state-minimum 30/60/25, you'd be personally exposed for the rest.

Hail on a parked vehicle

A spring hailstorm pockmarks your hood, roof, and trunk. Comprehensive coverage pays for paintless dent repair or a full re-paint, minus your comprehensive deductible. Hail claims generally don't raise your rate in Texas.

Hit-and-run in a parking lot

You come back to a crumpled bumper and no note. Uninsured motorist property damage (UMPD) pays to fix your car, often with a smaller deductible than collision.

What affects your price

  • Driving record — at-fault accidents and tickets stay on your record 3–5 years
  • Vehicle type, age, and safety features
  • Annual mileage and primary use (commute, pleasure, business)
  • Garaging ZIP code — urban ZIPs in DFW, Houston, and Austin run higher than rural ones
  • Credit-based insurance score, where allowed
  • Coverage limits, deductibles, and continuous prior coverage

How Klever Coverage helps

  • We compare your auto across multiple carriers in one shot — not just one company's rate.
  • We coach you to the right liability limits for your actual assets, not whatever the state minimum allows.
  • We bundle with home, life, or trucking where it actually saves money — and tell you when it doesn't.

Frequently asked questions

What's 'full coverage' auto insurance?

It's not a real coverage type — it's shorthand for liability plus collision plus comprehensive. If you finance or lease your vehicle, the lender will require all three.

Is the Texas state minimum enough?

Rarely. A modern hospital stay or a totaled late-model vehicle blows past 30/60/25 quickly. We almost always recommend at least 100/300/100 plus UM/UIM.

Will my rate go up after a hail claim?

Generally no in Texas. Weather-related comprehensive claims are treated differently from at-fault collision claims by most carriers.

Do I need rideshare or delivery coverage?

Yes, if you drive for Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, Instacart, or similar. A personal auto policy excludes commercial use, which can void coverage during a delivery. A rideshare endorsement is usually inexpensive.

How fast can I get an auto quote?

Most clients have apples-to-apples quotes back from us the same business day. Use the instant quote tool to start.
